Agreement highlights important role affiliates play in helping catch those who use digital technology to prey on children
(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced the Idaho State Police (ISP) has formally signed on to an agreement that makes the statewide agency the newest affiliate in the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce.
The taskforce consists of nearly 100 investigators, prosecutors and forensic examiners who assist with ICAC-related matters. Taskforce affiliates represent nearly 90 law enforcement agencies at the federal, state and local levels. The attorney general’s ICAC Unit – a full-time law enforcement agency housed in the office’s Criminal Law Division – oversees the ICAC Taskforce.
ISP Director Colonel Kedrick Wills signed the memorandum of understanding on October 16.
“I’m thrilled the Idaho State Police has joined ICAC in this capacity,” Wasden said. “ISP is a first-class law enforcement entity with a rich history in our state. I’m grateful to Col. Wills for dedicating ISP resources to aid in ICAC’s extremely important mission.”
ISP’s statewide authority will allow officers to assist with ICAC cases in every jurisdiction throughout the state.
“We’re honored to join the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and want to congratulate Attorney General Wasden on the great leadership he’s provided in establishing and supporting ICAC,” Wills said. “The Idaho State Police, like the other agencies involved, believe protecting our children is one of the most important jobs we do. That’s why we’re happy to add ISP resources to help the task force continue working to keep our children safe.”
Affiliates assist with investigations, prosecutions, forensic examinations and presentations in their jurisdiction. In return, they’re eligible for financial support for ICAC-related training, equipment and overtime.
“Taskforce affiliates play an essential role in assisting ICAC with detecting, investigating and prosecuting predators who use technology to criminally exploit our state’s children,” ICAC Commander Christopher McCormick said. “These partnerships enhance the taskforce’s overall effectiveness.”
